Latest updates to BarryOneOff.co.uk

Website first created: September 2002 - Latest updates: November 2009

November 20th. 2009

A long overdue major update. The only main difference with the layout is that I changed from 800 pixel width to 1024 pixels. I kept to fixed width format in order to have more control over the final appearance in different screen widths.
Right; technical jargon over. The main content changes have been in the City of London section. There are too many additions and alterations to list here but one of the larger additions is the churches section. Still not complete but I’ll get there eventually. There are also some WW II bomb damage photos accessible from the City of London page.
I’ve also cut out a lot of photos, there were just too many of them and I still may do some pruning in the future.
I found an old photo album with some photos to enhance the 1950’s pages and will add some more when I scan them. I’ve also added a search facility at the bottom of each page to enable you to search both this site and the web. One other trivial thing I had to do was design a new set of navigation buttons; the others were too large, and as the drop down menus got longer I had to make the buttons smaller!
This update has been a major task for me and some errors may have occurred. Please let me know if you find any errors!
The old Stock Exchange and Manor Park galleries are still in their old 800 pixel format, as I need to be in a very patient mood to rewrite these. I’ll get round to it one day hopefully.
Once again, can I remind you, that the East End Forum is always happy to get new members no matter where you are based. Please pop in and have a look round.
One other thing I feel I should mention in passing, is that since the last web site update I have managed to qualify as a fully qualified City of London Tour Guide. You can find out more about this here, at City of London Walks.info

January 28th 2008

Two new sections and photo galleries have been added to the Cockney pages. Manor Park Cemetery and Spitalfields Market. There are a few minor additions to other parts of the site, but I have still not had time to complete the gallery index.

November 19th 2007

Not a lot of changes this time. Apart from a few odd bits of text here and there the only added article is about the farmers market in Mile End Park. and a small photo gallery.

November 11th 2007

Ever since I saw a crane on the roof of the old London Stock Exchange building I have taken a photo or two when passing. This started about eighteen months ago. At first I thought they were just going to demolish it, but I then saw that they were simply transforming it. They still haven’t finished but here’s the story so far: Old London Stock Exchange building >>

October 30th 2007

Well if you’ve been here before, you will have already noticed the revamped decor and layout. I’ve made the whole site design simpler and hopefully easier on the eye.
I’m sorry to all the dial-up users for slightly even longer loading times for pictures but I have increased the size of photos to a quarter of their full size. They are now 640 x 480 pixels. Thumbnails are also slightly larger now. I have done this because of the number of Broadband connections now in use. There have also been a great many photos added.
I hope the navigation is suitable, it becomes more cumbersome each time new pages are added. The related links in the left margin may help.

A lot of the original content has had some additions or updates which I am afraid you will have to find for yourself. The major additions however, I’ll list here. Whitechapel is a new page along with a separate page on the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
The Isle of Dogs is another new addition along with a page on Mudchute Farm. I have also included a list of the photo galleries, but this may not be complete yet, I’m still working on it.. The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green is another new addition. I finally finished a page on Saint Paul’s Cathedral after grabbing some photos when passing by.

There are more updates almost ready to be uploaded, including articles on Spitalfields, Manor Park Cemetery and the old Stock Exchange building showing how it has been transformed by developers. I’ll add these within the next few weeks hopefully.

The East London Forum is always looking for new members. We moved to a new server in February this year (2007) and started from scratch. Membership is free and you can sign up at www.eastlondonforum.co.uk
